Student Directed Information for 2026

DIRECTOR INFORMATION
Application
Director packets are DUE MARCH 25th (THIS WEDNESDAY by 5pm)

If Approved, Auditions for Your Script will be March 27th after school in the Drama Room.

All one act scripts will be considered (Comedy, Drama, mature content, etc) and notified if being accepted by March 26th. More mature scripts will need admin approval.  Only One-Acts will be allowed. Self Written plays will be accepted.

There are many scripts online, and many in the library- you must obtain a copy of your script in order to be considered.

Some suggestions:
Dramas: Why Do We Laugh, To Burn a Witch, Before the Dawn, Touch the Bluebird's Song, Cave Dream, Like Dreaming Backwards, Cagebirds, Final Play, Women in War, Volume of Smoke, Polar Bears, Spare Parts

​Comedies: Bridal Terrorism, Hard Candy, 14 More Ways to Screw Up Your College Interview, Check Please, Sure Thing, The Philadelphia, Rapunzel Uncut, Words Words Words, Jack and the Beanstalk, Grimm's Spectacularathon, Present Tense, This is a Test, For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls 

Anything from Playscripts or Johnathan Dorff is usually manageable and appropriate for school. 
ACTOR INFORMATION
Actor Application
Auditions for Student Directed are March 27th. Please check-in with the Stage Manager at auditions.
  • GENERAL AUDITIONS: March 27th from 3-4:30pm. This year we are having select scenes from the plays that are being student directed as audition pieces.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Please bring a current headshot & résumé, and the actor application signed by parents.
  • Slate your name and title of your pieces prior to your monologue. Don’t forget to take an actor beat before beginning your monologue.  Slates and monologues cannot exceed 3 minutes.
  • Call-Backs will be at the same time of auditions.
  • Bring your calendar and be prepared to list all conflicts. Conflicts not listed at time of auditions may not be honored.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Student Directed opens today for Director submissions. Strike is mandatory for all cast and crew.  The last two weeks of rehearsal are mandatory for all actors and technicians, this is non-negotiable.   
  • Schedule:
    • Monday, Wednesday, Friday 3:00-4:00pm for the month of April (This is tentative and will accommodate testing schedule)
      ​
      Monday-Friday 3:00-5:00pm TECH WEEK last two weeks (Mandatory for everyone)
      May 5th-7th are Dress Rehearsal 3:00pm-6pm
      May 8th Performance-  call time 3:30pm, showtime at 7pm.

Performance May 8th

Join us for the Student Directed One-Act Play Festival! These plays may be short, but they pack a ton of fun and laughs into a short span of time. Perfect for those with short attention spans, this evening of One-Acts is sure to delight. Directed, performed, produced, and sometimes even written by Marcos de Niza High School students, these shows will leave you laughing, crying, and hopefully wanting to see more!

Student Directed #1 at 6:00 PM
Student Directed #2 is at 7:00 PM
